The latest She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode saw the Marvel Cinematic Debut of Donny Blaze, an intriguing character.

In “Is This Not Real Magic?” Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) has to deal with a very peculiar case involving a quarrel between two — kind of — Masters of the Mystic Arts. Walters teamed up with the Sorcerer Supreme Wong (Benedict Wong) to prevent a magician known as Donny Blaze from messing with the Mystic Arts.

Who Is Donny Blaze?

Donny Blaze is a cut-rate magician portrayed by Rhys Coiro who makes his first appearance in She-Hulk Episode 4. Unlike many others, Donny doesn’t have a comic book counterpart and appears to be a brand-new character invented for the latest Marvel Studios series. In the episode, Wong gives some backstory for the latest MCU addition. Back in the day, Donny used to train at Kamar-Taj to become a Master of the Mystic Arts. After he had some difficulty adapting to the rules, Donny had to leave the place. Before doing that, Donny stole a sling ring, that he now uses to perform some cheap magic tricks during his shows.

The most curious aspect of the new character is his surname, Blaze. Marvel fans speculated that She-Hulk might introduce Johnny Blaze, a.k.a. Ghost Rider, into the MCU, but it doesn’t appear to be the case. Donny might be messing with fire during his tricks sometimes, but he has no fiery skull head. She-Hulk Episode 4 tricks fans for a while as Donny also mentions some demons and actually evokes a few of them from another dimension. Still, he doesn’t come out as Ghost Rider, ultimately.

Sometimes, Marvel can be deceiving while promoting a new series to keep the secrets safe as much as possible. Some sharp-eye fans spotted a poster for Blaze’s magic show in the promotional trailers and hoped to see an appearance from the Spirit of Vengeance. In fact, She-Hulk executive-producer Jessica Gao already debunked those theories in the past, stating that Donny adopted that stage name because he thought he could get a lot of attention for it. Ghost Rider fans still have to wait until they see a new take on their favorite hero.
